    Introduction

The needs of mineral resources by our society is continuously growing. The performance of Geological Maps during all stages of exploration, is continuously achieved not only during the investigation phase, but also during the evaluation and exploitation phases of mineral resources. The Geological Maps are the base on which the other mining works are planned and performed. To have highly reliable Geological Maps all along the process is of primary importance. If these maps are not correct, the objectives of the search programs, on which important human, financial and material resources are invested, could fail.

The teacher of this course is Juan Jose Gomez, former Professor of the Faculty of Geological Sciences of the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain), where has been teaching Geological Mapping for more than 25 years, former General Manager of Exxon Minera Española. The course is presented through high quality multimedia contents within the virtual Moodle platform, combined with practical exercises together with videoconferences that could be visited at any time in case the student cannot be present on them, as well as videotutorials.

    Objectives

The main objective of this course is to prepare the student to face the challenge of the completion of a mining project. For this purpose, the course offers a text with numerous Geological Maps for minerals exploration of real cases, performed during the different stages of the mining projects, as well as 13 practical exercises oriented to develop the needed capabilities to obtain ”solid” interpreted geological maps and sections from outcrops maps containing mineral shows, and to design the boundaries of the mining rights to be applied for to the Mining Authorities to obtain the mining rights, and to design the geochemical and geophysical campaigns and the drilling program.

The students will deliver in the platform the answer to the exercises (maps and sections). The professor solution of the exercises will be published in the platform, and the exercises corrected and the marks and comments for each student will be notified independently. No examinations on the delivered text are forecasted, making the course eminently practical.

    Juan José Gómez

Dr. Juan José Gomez has been Professor of Geological Mapping for Geologists and Engereering Geologits for more than 25 years in the Faculty of Geology of the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain). Previously was working for the consulting company Geoexperts as junior and senior geologist mainly in projects of civil engineering. Afterward in minerals and hydrocarbon exploration for the companies Esso Minerals Spain, mainly looking for Uranium and Exxon MInera Española, looking for base and precious metals where developed projects in Spain and in several parts of the World, reaching the position of Exploration Manager for Spain.

All of our courses are offered 100% online, through our intuitive Virtual Campus. Topics are taught through:

    • – Videos
    • – Interactive multimedia content
    • – Live classes
    • – Texts
    • – Case studies
    • – Evaluation exercises
    • – Additional documentation

The content is updated in each new course edition, so that knowledge is acquired around the latest news and state-of-the-art geotechnical engineering technology.

One of the most interesting aspects of our courses is the use of live videoconferences, in which teachers and students interact in a continuous exchange of knowledge and problem solving. In addition to this, students can make use of the platform’s forum, a meeting point where they can interact with teachers and other students.

A tutoring system will also be established by email, which will resolve any possible doubts about the course, and which will serve as a point of connection for students with specific questions on each module.

Students can also download all course documentation, including texts, videos, video conferences and exercises.

Undergraduates, graduates, juniors and geologists worldwide.

At the end of the course, and as accreditation of knowledge acquired and of the technical and practical training, students who correctly complete the corresponding evaluation tests of the geotechnical engineering course will obtain an academic certificate issued by Ingeoexpert. This digital certificate is protected by Blockchain technology, making it unique and tamper-proof, thus enabling companies to verify its authenticity.

It can also be downloaded by students, forwarded by email and shared on social networks, as well as embedded on any website. You can see an example here.

The requirements of mineral resources by the society is continuously growing. Minerals are the base of the new technologies that contribute to improve our quality of life. The mining companies are awarded about these needs and exploration is extended all over the World, requiring the employment of well-trained professionals on this subject.

After an stage on which the strong environmental restrictions partly inhibited the interest of exploration for new resources, some parts of the World, like Europe, have realize that the discovery of new resources is needed unless you strongly depend on other countries for the supply of mineral resources, many of them considered as strategic, and hence for the future development of the industry.

As a result, mineral exploration is increasing activity, giving more opportunities of employment to many geologists with background in minerals exploration.
