California is a specially affected area for this type of geographical accident, having more than one hundred localized faults. Two of these tectonic plates are in the California state, giving birth to the San Andreas fault. It is a break in the earth&#8217;s crust that crosses up until the golf of California and that has some ramifications that form smaller faults.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to scientists, the movement of the tectonic plates will provoke that the peninsula of Lower California slowly shifts to the north and in 50000 years It will separate from Mexico and become on an island.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Earthquake of the San Andrea fault<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The west of the United States of America is a zone with a lot of seismic activity and the state of California is one of the most affected by earthquakes. In April of 1906 a shift of the tectonic plates originated an earthquake among the most fateful of history. With an intensity of 8 degrees in the Richter scale, the San Andreas earthquake had its epicenter near San Francisco and an 8 degrees intensity in the Richter scale that caused 3000 casualties and a completely ruined city.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the San Andreas fault has had a noteworthy seismic activity:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sunday, October 10, 2009, registered at 11:59 an earthquake of 6,9 in the Richter scale that felt in Culiac\u00e1n and La Paz.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wednesday, December 30 of the same year an earth shift of 5,9 in the Richter scale was felt in Mexicali, Tijuana, Ensenada and other zones of California and lower California.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The same day an earthquake replica of 5,1 in the Richter scale happened and felt especially near Mexicali city.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sunday, April 4, 2010, an earthquake registered in lower California of 7,2 on the Richter scale. This one had big consequences, the epicenter was in the city of Guadalupe and affected several regions leaving some causalities and centenary of injured.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This same earthquake was felt in other cities close to Mexico and California like Los Angeles, Rosarito, Tijuana and Tecate.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">August 17 of 2015 in San Francisco, a seism of 6,1 in the Richter scale was registered. Nevertheless, the consequences weren\u2019t so disgraceful as the previous ones, it only left material damage.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The same year, a month later an earthquake of 6,6 in Richter scale was detected. It affected lower California but had zero casualties or material damage.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the last Earthquakes registered in the zone was on Thursday 8 December of 2016. This seism had a 6,4 in the Richter scale and affected mostly the west coast of California. Experts foresee that it will be higher than a 9 in the Richter scale, making it the one with greater magnitude until date<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It will last almost 5 minutes and the consequences will be supposedly catastrophic.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Big One would be a mega-earthquake since that\u2019s the category where earthquakes which magnitudes surpass 8,5 in the Richter scale. The epicenter of this mega-earthquake would be in the city of Palm Springs, California, but the seismic waves will reach the north and south of the whole state.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This seism could happen in the next few years or 6 million years, though recent studies foresees that can happen in the next 30 years.
