Introduction<\/h3>\n

Tunnels are becoming less expensive, more resilient and are being used to solve various modern problems in transportation, storage, energy and in other sectors. More and more governments and owners are building longer, deeper, and bigger tunnels, and there is a growing need for qualified professionals to undertake these interesting soil-structure interaction designs. For this reason, the present course \u201cTunnel Design with PLAXIS 2D and 3D\u201d has been developed to support tunnel professionals to improve or start a career in tunnelling focusing on design and modelling in PLAXIS 2D and 3D.<\/p>\n

This course aims to provide training on tunnel design using PLAXIS 2D and 3D software. The course covers different types of tunnelling construction methods, such as: conventional, segmental lining and rock tunnels. The course also goes through different design approaches and verifications considering different geologies, loading conditions, project stage, and other different considerations.<\/p>\n

The course is divided into 6 modules and has a duration of approximately 60 hours, covering both ground and support behavior, when excavating a tunnel, tunnelling construction methods, numerical modelling with PLAXIS 2D and 3D; and concludes with lessons learned from tunnel collapses, monitoring and risk mitigation.<\/p>\n

The professor, Cl\u00e1udio Cabral Dias, Head of Ground Engineering and Tunnelling at AYESA, aims to use his extensive international experience in the design and construction of different types of tunnels, to train professional with real projects and didactic exercises, so that they can obtain\/improve design skills to work in the dynamic and growing industry of tunnelling.<\/p>\n
