Tool wear is more difficult to calculate than the rest of the machine parameters, due to the complexity of the interaction between cutting tools and ground. In this course we are going to learn about various <strong>methodologies for the prediction of TBM penetration and general performance<\/strong> of an underground mechanized excavation, introduction to the comprehensive generalized <strong>excavation system<\/strong>, <strong>type of machines<\/strong>, parts and functions of such. Study of the cutting tool interaction with the ground to excavate. <strong>Abrasivity of the soil \/ rock<\/strong> and effect of wear and damage in cutting tools. Implication of the phenomenon of wear on the performance of an excavation.
