<\/a><\/h3>\nIntroduction<\/h3>\n
Clean and wholesome drinking water is key for human health and wellbeing. Also, the production of food and beverages, goods and materials, cannot be done without access to clean water. Supply of drinking water is however not a straightforward process. Raw water is taken from different sources such as groundwater and surface waters. Water treatment is required to bring the water to a quality that complies with the standards for drinking water. Finally, the water quality must not deteriorate during transport to the tap.<\/p>\n
In this course the whole process of water supply \u2018from source to tap\u2019 will be covered. You will learn about water quality parameters, and the design of water treatment systems and its unit operations. Finally, we will address how water quality can be protected in a distribution network.<\/p>\n
The focus of the course is on supply of drinking water, but the knowledge can also be used in the context of water treatment within industrial processes where high water quality is required.<\/p>\n
Objectives<\/h3>\n
In this course you will<\/p>\n

- Learn about water quality parameters that are important to produce clean drinking water. This will include an overview of water quality guidelines and regulations<\/li>\n
- Develop understanding of microbiological, chemical, esthetic and operational water quality parameters<\/li>\n
- Develop an in-depth knowledge about water treatment processes and the role of the individual unit operations in the treatment process<\/li>\n
- Understand the basic design principles of the water treatment unit operations.<\/li>\n
- Understand how water quality can be protected after treatment until it arrives at the tap<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
