    Introduction

Bentley Systems is a leading software company for the design of all types of infrastructures including buildings.

OpenBuildings Designer is a multidisciplinary building design application that enables BIM work cycles to provide information-rich models for building design, analysis, simulation, and documentation. The application shares a catalog of design components for the entire project team. Integrated Clash Detection allows designers to coordinate building systems. The federated files approach to modeling and drawing management allows users to work on models of any size simultaneously.

OpenBuildings Designer becomes Bentley’s BIM platform where models from any discipline (roads, bridges, and infrastructures in general) created with other Bentley software can be integrated since they use the same file format, the DGN.

This course, taught by Sergi de Ferrater, architect, BIM Manager and experienced teacher certified by Bentley Systems, is based on the modeling of a multi-family building and is presented through a series of multimedia contents where practical cases are presented step by step that They will serve as the basis for the student to develop any BIM model of any size and prepare a collaborative environment between teams of different disciplines based on the Bentley federated model.

Likewise, there will be live classes and videoconferences, which may be viewed delayed in case of not being able to be present at them.

    Objectives

The objective of this course on OpenBuildings Designer is to provide the project designer with the basic knowledge to Creating BIM models for the design and construction of buildings in a multidisciplinary environment and to know how to use the BIM model to share the model with other collaborators.

At the end of the course, the student will be able to design a BIM model of a building in the disciplines of Architecture and Structures, organize the federated model of files by disciplines, and extract the documentation in PDF both in plans and in PDF-3D.

    Sergi Ferrater Gabarró

Sergi is a Senior Architect from the UPC (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya) with a long experience in consulting BIM / VDC systems for more than 20 years. His experience as Product Manager in two prestigious architecture software developers (ArchiCAD reseller and Nemetschek España, SA) and currently in AECon Soluciones, SL, Bentley Partner in Spain, has allowed him to know first-hand the different BIM design platforms and its application and use in the different phases of the life cycle of a project.

He has participated in the 4D project of the Johan Cruyff Stadium and of the Espai Barça of FC Barcelona as a collaborator for the development of the 4D project with SYNCHRO and in the implementation of SYNCHRO in companies subcontracted by the FCB.

Sergi is a qualified professor in different online BIM certification programs and his knowledge of the different platforms allows him to give a global vision of construction-oriented design, both practical and educational.

Currently Sergi is a Bentley certified Product Training Partner of OpenBuildings Designer and SYNCHRO and a BIM consultant in companies that are implementing BIM in their infrastructure and building projects.

The course is delivered online through our easy-to-use Virtual Campus platform. For this course, a variety of content is provided including:

    – eLearning materials
    – Videos
    – Interactive multimedia content
    – Live webinar classes
    – Texts and technical articles
    – Case studies
    – Assignments and evaluation exercises

Students can download the materials and work through the course at their own pace. We regularly update this course to ensure the latest news and state-of-the-art developments are covered, and your knowledge of the subject is current.

Live webinars form part of our course delivery. These allow students and tutors to go through the course materials, exchange ideas and knowledge, and solve problems together in a virtual classroom setting. Students can also make use of the platform’s forum, a meeting point to interact with tutors and other students.

The tutoring system is managed by email. Students can email the tutor with any questions about the course and the tutor will be happy to help.

This course is intended for architects, engineers, and technical professionals who want to get started on the Bentley BIM platform for building projects. No prior knowledge of any specific CAD software is required but MicroStation users will take a major leap from CAD design to BIM modeling using the same MicroStation platform.

Once a student finishes the course and successfully completes the assignments and evaluation tests, they are sent an accreditation certificate. The certificate is issued by Ingeoexpert to verify that the student has passed the course. It is a digital certificate that is unique and tamper-proof – it is protected by Blockchain technology. This means it is possible for anyone to check that it is an authentic, original document.

You will be able to download the certificate in an electronic format from the Virtual Campus platform. The certificate can be forwarded by email, shared on social networks, and embedded on websites. To see an example, click here.
