    Introduction and objectives

The purpose of this course is to guide how to undertake the geotechnical engineering projects and how to decide geotechnical design parameters for the geotechnical engineering analyses. Selecting the site investigation methods, quantities of boreholes (number, depth), evaluating the geotechnical design parameters and application in the design analyses are important decisions to make for a geotechnical engineer. Deciding the geotechnical design parameters are also an important in the geotechnical engineering.

This course will provide a brief intro in the soil properties and soil engineering parameters, site investigation methods, and will provide more on how decisions are made on the site investigation, data analysis and evaluation of geotechnical engineering design parameters. Finally, the application of design parameters in the example geotechnical design analysis will be provided.

    Tun Lwin

Mr. Tun Lwin, M.Eng., M.Sc., P.Eng., P.Geo., is a senior geotechnical engineer and has over 18 years of practices in geotechnical engineering, engineering geology, geohazards and hydrogeology. Mr. Lwin has project experiences in Singapore and Canada. Mr. Lwin’s geotechnical engineering project experiences included related to land reclamation, high rise building developments, bridge foundations, excavation and retaining structures, highways, pipelines and slope stabilizations. Mr. Lwin had led the very well equipped advanced geotechnical and civil material testing laboratories for over 10 years and has experiences in advanced soil testing and civil engineering material testing.

This course will provide you with necessary knowledge in geotechnical works and enable you to decide geotechnical site investigation planning, geotechnical design parameters selections for geotechnical engineering analyses.

The course will be online course and included five (5) modules. Each module will have 1 hour of lecture, 5 hours of reading material and 2.5 hours of written assignment. Three (3) live webinars will be provided along the course.

This course is intended for engineer who would like to be a competent practicing geotechnical engineer. It is also intended for civil engineers, prime consultants, project managers, who often comes cross with the geotechnical works in the projects, and would like to have background knowledge in geotechnical engineering for their project management.

    Prerequisite for the course

Basic background in civil engineering preferably with knowledge in principles of geotechnical engineering.

As evidence of knowledge gained throughout the course, a certificate will be issued from the Virtual platform. This certificate is based on the modern technology Blockchain, which increases security, prevents fraud, builds trust and ensures you’re ready for the future.

Geotechnical engineering is well established profession and has application in wide range of infrastructure projects, such as residential and commercial developments, reclamation project, pipelines, roads, dams, tunneling, mines, etc. This course will provide insight practical knowledge and will provide entry level geotechnical engineer with necessary skills to work for the projects. The career opportunities are at small to large consulting firms and regulatory authorities.
